The Level 1 VMware Administrator will be responsible for the basic administration, maintenance, and support of VMware infrastructure. This role involves monitoring system performance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the stability and reliability of the VMware environment. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of VMware products and be eager to learn and grow in the field of virtualization and cloud computing.
Key Responsibilities:
VMware Infrastructure Monitoring:
Monitor the performance and availability of VMware ESXi hosts, virtual machines (VMs), and other VMware components using monitoring tools.
Respond to alerts and system events in a timely manner, ensuring minimal downtime and disruptions.
Basic Troubleshooting and Support:
Assist in diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network issues related to the VMware environment.
Escalate complex issues to senior team members or vendors as needed, while providing initial troubleshooting data.
Virtual Machine Management:
Perform basic tasks such as creating, configuring, cloning, and deleting virtual machines (VMs) based on user requests and organizational needs.
Manage VM snapshots, ensuring proper storage utilization and system performance.
User Support:
Provide support to end-users and IT staff regarding VMware-related issues.
Assist with access management by creating and modifying user accounts, roles, and permissions within VMware vCenter.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of VMware infrastructure, including network diagrams, configuration files, and system settings.
Generate reports on system performance, resource usage, and incidents as required.
Backup and Recovery:
Support backup and recovery operations for VMs, ensuring that all critical data is securely backed up and can be restored when needed.
Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing to ensure business continuity.
Software and Firmware Updates:
Assist in the application of patches, updates, and upgrades to VMware products and related hardware.
Ensure that all updates are applied following best practices and in accordance with change management procedures.
Security and Compliance:
Assist in maintaining the security of the VMware environment by applying necessary security settings, patches, and updates.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry standards, such as ISO27001, SOC2, or GDPR, as applicable.
